Eastern Cape buckling under scourge of femicide

STUTTERHEIM, Eastern Cape -  "The police are investigating," these have become standard words friends and families often hear when searching for answers about the fate of their loved ones.

But they carry no assurances that there will be closure.

In the Eastern Cape village of Toise just outside Stutterheim, a caring grandmother has been killed, allegedly at the hands of her grandson.

It's one of many cases of femicide so worryingly common, in the province.
