Association says poultry dumping is costing SA jobs

JOHANNESBURG - Local poultry producers are calling on Trade and Industry Minister Ebrahim Patel to react to anti-dumping tariff duties next month.

Patel suspended the duties for a year last August.

This was in response to fears that the additional tariffs would make chicken unaffordable for the poor.

The local poultry sector has long bemoaned so-called dumping which sees countries such as Brazil sell chicken to South Africa at prices lower than the going price in Brazil.

The South African Poultry Association says dumping is decimating local jobs as the sector battles with additional challenges including high feed costs and load-shedding.
