Expert says poor crime intelligence is a ticking timebomb

JOHANNESBURG - In the past few days 20 trucks have been set ablaze in three different provinces according to authorities, the hunt is on for the perpetrators, and more police officers have been deployed on highways.

Security expert, Jacob Mofokeng says that the absence of effective crime intelligence has made the government and police agencies unable to contain this threat.

Mofokeng said, “because of the absence of effective crime intelligence in South Africa, many people will be encouraged to commit crime because there is a high probability that when you commit these crimes they will not be arrested."

"This is a ticking time bomb within the South African environment where the lack of efficiency in the police and crime intelligence."

"So, the police will function reactively, and then we only know on paper that there is crime intelligence. We don’t see the efficiency of crime intelligence based on what is happening in South Africa.”
