CT organisation shining light for women to share their stories

CAPE TOWN - An anthology of stories written and told by women entitled Our Stories, Our Voices, Discovering Ourselves, was launched in Cape Town.

The book is the first edition of Ilitha Labantu's Isisele Senyathi Women's Hub on African Women's History. It aims to give voice to untold stories of ordinary women, leaders, visionaries, and change-makers who have helped to shape not only South Africa but the world.

They are stories about abuse, struggle and hardship. The organisation behind the book is Ilitha Labantu and been addressing the scourge of violence against women and girls for more than three decades.

Those who were fighting for freedom were also not spared when it came to sexual abuse. She says the woman never told her daughter who her real father was and took her story to her grave, like so many others. Twenty women were chosen to write their stories in their own words for this first edition. Ilitha Labantu is calling on more women to come forward so that their stories do not remain hidden forever.
