Service delivery | Common enemy is unresponsive government, says analyst

JOHANNESBURG - As the 2024 election approaches, service delivery protests are becoming more prevalent.

One expert says this is the only way for some communities to get attention from government.

Naledi Modise from North West University says this is due to a lack of real action from the state.

"The common enemy is really an unresponsive government so issues of service delivery, inequality and joblessness," she says.

"I think now in the forefront lately has been the issue of the cost of living, the energy crisis in the country, provision of water."

Modise says that because elections take place every five years, protests become the one way in which South Africans are able to voice their frustrations.
