Outrage at sewage in Cape Town ocean

CAPE TOWN - Environmentalists, researchers and the public are outraged by the sewage spill at the Moullie Point pump station in Cape Town.

Community leaders claim the city recklessly allowed people to swim in contaminated water by failing to respond to the spill in time.

The city denies this and says the breakdown at one of six pump stations was caused by maintenance done that day.

The city says it will test the water quality following the spill.

Cape Town’s mayoral committee member for Water and Sanitation, Zahid Badroodien, says there have been issues with a pump station in Camps Bay, and officials are working to address that.
