Striking Tshwane workers face dismissal

PRETORIA - Over 40 City of Tshwane municipal workers face dismissal.

They are accused of taking part in an illegal and unprotected strike over salary increases.

The City has issued letters of intention to dismiss to workers from the SA Municipal Workers Union.

SAMWU members are unhappy about not getting wage increases and are demanding a 5.4 percent increase.

Last week, the Labour Court declared the strike action unlawful and unprotected.

Meanwhile, the City says it's put a recovery plan in place to address the backlog caused by the strike.
