WATCH | Mawela warned Gauteng authorities about hotspots

JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng province was alerted back in 2021 to 10 national and provincial roads that are prone to hijackings and the spiking of car tyres.

Provincial Police Commissioner Elias Mawela says he wrote to the Premier's office, asking for help and intervention.

The robbing of Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga on the N3 has brought back into the spotlight the lack of safety on the country's roads.

The Police Commissioner says he's pleased that no one was injured.
