US backs two permanent seats for Africa

JOHANNESBURG - The United States says its ready to support two permanent seats for Africa, and one non-permanent seat for small island states in the UN Security Council.

But they won't go as far as endorsing the two permanent seats to have veto powers, claiming the system among the current permanent members has created problems.

African nations have dismissed this suggestion as an insult.
