Interfaith prayer | Praying for peace and the polls

JOHANNESBURG - Praying for divine intervention.

That's what thousands of congregants did on Sunday in Heidelberg at an interfaith prayer session held by the International Pentecostal Holiness Church.

The gathering was attended by members of local government, politicians and NGOs.

Those in attendance believe religion has a role to play in politics ahead of elections next year and in addressing the country's socio-economic conditions.

Given the ongoing conflict between countries such as Ukraine and Russia and more recently Israel and Hamas, this service has been dedicated to praying for peace across the globe.

The IPHC says this is the first of many prayer sessions that will be held to ensure free and fair elections next year.
