Farmers call on government to scrap sugar tax

JOHANNESBURG - The sugar tax is leaving a bitter taste in towns across South Africa.

The Farmers Development Association says sugarcane factory closures turned thriving areas into ghost towns.

It's now calling on government to abolish the tax.

The prices of sugar, sweets and desserts are at their highest since 2017.
