Chicken imports | Association welcomes anti-dumping duties
JOHANNESBURG - The South African Poultry Association has welcomed the anti-dumping duties that have been imposed on cheap chicken-on-the-bone imports from countries including Brazil, Spain, Poland, and Denmark.
It has also assured consumers that the price of the South African staple will not increase significantly as a result of these duties.
Trade, Industry & Competition Minister Ebrahim Patel gazetted a notice on Thursday, saying the tariffs need to be reintroduced.
But he requires the signature of the Finance Minister.
The anti-dumping tariffs range between 2 percent and 265 percent, depending on the chicken producer.
The duties will also protect the local poultry industry which has been competing with the cheap imports since August last year.
