JOHANNESBURG - The National Council of SPCAs is calling on all pet owners to ensure their animals are safe and secure ahead of New Year's Eve celebrations.

The SPCA is bracing itself for a stressful weekend of reports of terrified dogs and cats escaping from their homes.

The council's Jacques Peacock says pet owners need to ensure the safety of all their animals, including those that live outside.
