Stage 3 blackouts for the weekend

JOHANNESBURG - A dark weekend as Eskom ramps up power cuts to Stage 3 until Monday morning.

Stage 2 power cuts will then kick in for the rest of the week.

The embattled power utility is blaming the breakdown of multiple generating units for the escalation in blackouts.

The delay in the return to service of Koeberg Unit 2 has exacerbated the capacity shortages.

Eskom will update the public on the state of the power system on Monday.
