JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng authorities have been racing against time to ensure spaza shops are registered by Tuesday the 17 of December.
Almost 14,000 application forms have been issued, and thus far, more than 500 spaza shops have been shut down for non- compliance.
The crackdown follows food-borne illnesses and deaths in several parts of the country.
