AVBOB celebrates a milestone by rewarding its members on a large scale

AVBOB reached another milestone this month with the first birthday celebration of its popular AVBOB Member Rewards programme. This is a big event for members who have opted in to the value-sharing programme as the Group has announced it will share R200 million in mutual value in celebration, with over R55 million already shared in March 2025.

AVBOB Member Rewards was launched in April 2024 as a rewards programme geared towards sharing mutual value with members in a way that improves their day-to-day lives. The programme is FREE to all qualifying AVBOB members and forms part of the Group’s commitment to create value for, and share value with, its members. It also demonstrates the tangible benefits that membership of this unique South African mutual society offers.

Hundreds of thousands of AVBOB members have opted in and are benefiting from the Member Rewards programme.

AVBOB Member Rewards is part of the Group's ongoing commitment to share value with its members. Members of AVBOB Mutual Society who have opted in to the programme, through registration on the Self-Service Portal, participation in member activities, and regular engagement with AVBOB Member Rewards, have helped shape and refine the programme to ensure that it meets member needs.

AVBOB Member Rewards is a tiered programme that aims to reward AVBOB members in line with the value-sharing proposition where members of the Society share in the surplus profits of the Group. The rewards are shared in the form of discounts, coupons and vouchers in various service and product categories – including groceries, health and beauty, fast food, airtime, and so much more – through a network of carefully selected rewards partners.

How it works

Although being an active AVBOB member is the only requirement for participation, members should familiarise themselves with the

 Member Rewards terms and conditions.

Eligible members benefit from the programme based on the age of their oldest AVBOB policy. Members whose oldest active AVBOB policy is 0-1 year old are assigned to the green tier, members whose oldest active policy is 2-9 years old are in the bronze tier, and members whose oldest active policy is 10 years and older fall in the silver tier.

To opt in to AVBOB Member Rewards, members must register/log in to the AVBOB Self-Service Portal at https://selfservice.avbob.co.za. To ensure accessibility, members can also opt in through the AVBOB contact centre and in-branch assistance through kiosk and dedicated branch employees.

AVBOB’s shared value business model is the cornerstone of the Group’s business approach, which involves continuously making rewards available at various levels to qualifying members.

The benefits arising from funeral policies usually apply at a later stage in a member’s life or, of course, upon the loss of a loved one. AVBOB Member Rewards, however, is designed so that members who opt in can benefit from membership of their favourite mutual society earlier in life.

AVBOB’s goal is for all policyholders to opt in and reap the benefits shared by AVBOB Member Rewards. It is the Group’s way of giving back to its members – providing practical and financial benefits when they need it most.
