JOHANNESBURG - South Africa’s communications minister, Solly Malatsi, has been criticized for proposing changes to BEE laws that will potentially benefit Elon Musk’s Starlink.

The law currently requires that a telecommunications company is 30% owned by historically disadvantaged South Africans in order to be licenced.
It’s the reason why Starlink which is owned by SA born billionaire, Elon Musk, does not operate in the country.
Earlier Starlink’s parent company, SpaceX, wrote to the regulator, ICASA, and urged it to reconsider the 30% ownership requirement, suggesting alternatives.
