JOHANNESBURG - Since 2023, the Vaal River has been overwhelmed with an invasive aquatic species.
Water lettuce and Hyacinth feed off raw sewage.
It's believed sewage is being pumped into the river by poorly functioning municipal treatment systems.
Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu is meeting the responsible municipalities.
