CAPE TOWN - A study conducted by the University of Cape Town has revealed high levels of vaping among teenagers.
Nearly 17% of surveyed learners currently use vapes, and of those a large number of them indicated that they are vaping with products containing nicotine.
The study warns that nicotine dependence could become South Africa's next epidemic.
The researchers are calling on government to fast track a bill aimed at regulating the industry.
Samantha Filby from the University of Cape Town's School of Economics discussed these findings with eNCA.
