Fake qualifications rock public sector as many pose as teachers, doctors

DURBAN - Falsified or misrepresented qualifications are becoming a serious problem.

Some teachers have been caught with fraudulent credentials which threatens quality of education.

Others have even been caught masquerading as doctors, putting lives at risk.

It's a criminal offence that carries a prison sentence of up to five years.

But, despite this the number of people with fake qualifications remains alarmingly high.

According to Busani Ngcaweni from the Wits School of Governance, some well-known public sector organisations have employed individuals who have falsified their credentials, and these organizations have suffered greater financial losses as a result. 

The issue at hand is not about apprehending criminals; rather, the public's value is diminished.
