JOHANNESBURG - South African music icon Dr Victor and his long-time band, The Rasta Rebels, are back on stage this weekend with a special performance at the Theatre of Marcellus at Emperors Palace, Johannesburg.
The show takes place on Saturday, 12 April 2025, and promises a night of feel-good, high-energy music.
Dr Victor, whose real name is Victor Khojane, has been a major figure in South African music for more than 30 years.
He’s best known for blending reggae, R&B, and pop to create a unique sound that has kept fans dancing for decades.
His hits include fan favourites like “I Love to Truck” and his well-loved version of Eddy Grant’s “Give Me Hope Joanna” a song that continues to bring people together.
Born in Kimberley in the Northern Cape, Dr Victor started his musical journey in the 1980s as part of a group called CC Beat.
After years of playing in clubs and gaining experience, he formed The Rasta Rebels, and the group soon found success across South Africa.
Over the years, they’ve shared stages with international artists such as Lucky Dube, Eddy Grant, and even opened for Paul Simon during his South African tour.
This weekend’s show will be a celebration of his greatest hits, along with a few surprises from new material.
Speaking ahead of the concert, Dr Victor said he’s excited to be back performing live and connecting with fans. “We're back now after two years and we are looking forward to the crowd” he said.
