More and more South Africans, especially in Gauteng, are choosing property without partnership.

It's part of a growing global trend known as "houses before spouses" and according to Only Realty CEO Grant Smee, it is catching on fast. 

With affordability still a major hurdle, many younger buyers are ditching tradition and teaming up with friends or family to co-own property.

The number of homes bought with a spouse has dropped significantly in the past decade.
