PRETORIA -International relations expert, Professor Christopher Isike weighed in on the dismissal of South Africa's Ambassador to the United States, Ebrahim Rasool.
He says while Rasool could have been more tactful in expressing his anti-Donald Trump views, this should not overshadow the fact that the US didn’t accept him, which may have caused frustration.
But despite this, Isike says Rasool cannot speak like an academic with freedom.
US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, lambasted Rasool for comments made during a webinar.
Rasool was part of a panel discussing foreign policy hosted by the Mapungubwe Institute for Strategic Reflection.
He made comments on US foreign policy and the Make America Great Again movement.
Rubio slammed him as a 'race-baiting politician' who is no longer welcome in the country.
Meanwhile the South African Presidency described the expulsion as regrettable and called for diplomatic decorum.
