Discussion | International Women's Day | Women continue to suffer in conflict situations

JOHANNESBURG - On Saturday the 8th of March is International Women’s Day and the plight of women and girls in conflict areas has been thrust into the spotlight once again after the Trump administration aid cuts. 

It’s feared programs aimed at women and girls’ sexual and reproductive health will be among those hardest hit and those living in conflict areas could pay the heaviest price.

According to the United Nations, conflict can result in higher levels of gender-based violence against women and girls, including arbitrary killings, torture, sexual violence and forced marriage. 

Kayan Leung, Head of the Gender Equality Programme at Lawyers for Human Rights spoke to eNCA.
