PARLIAMENT - Parliament says it's going ahead as legally required to facilitate the first sitting of the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces.
Chief Justice Raymond Zondo declared on Monday the first sitting of the seventh Parliament will be on 14 June, while the first sitting of the National Council of Provinces will be on 15 June.
In a statement, Parliament says there are no legal impediments preventing this process.
Proceedings are set to go ahead without the presence of the MK Party.
The uMkhonto weSizwe Party wants to interdict the first sitting over what it calls unresolved irregularities with recent elections.
The party, which has obtained 58 seats, maintains the elections were not free and fair and has threatened to boycott the first sitting of Parliament.
Parliament says it has decided to cancel all flight and accommodation bookings for MK Party members in order to avoid incurring fruitless and wasteful expenditure.
The parliamentary administration is currently making travel arrangements for all incoming MPs.
