UPDATE | George building collapse Death toll rises to 27

GEORGE - The death toll of the George building collapse has now risen to 27, with 13 people hospitalised, and 25 people unaccounted for.

Search and rescue operations are continuing.

Meanwhile, Western Cape Premier Alan Winde says authorities need to establish the cause of the tragic collapse that has claimed at least 27 lives.

Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Sihle Zikalala is expected to visit the disaster site on Monday, joined by a delegation of environment professionals and experts from the construction industry.

The purpose of the visit is to ascertain the role of professionals who were involved with this project and to assess if there was compliance with all building regulations.
