PARLIAMENT - President Cyril Ramaphosa says South Africa has made progress in reducing poverty since it transitioned to democracy.
In his State of the Nation Address, Ramaphosa says the country has progressed and shared the story of Tintswalo, a child born in 1994, who experienced the benefits of democracy.
“The story of the first 30 years of our democracy can be best told through the life of a child called #Tintswalo born at the dawn of freedom in 1994.”

Opposition parties criticised the president's speech, saying he presented a picture at odds with the realities of many South Africans' lives.
