JOHANNESBURG - South Africans always strive to be the best or number one. Be it the Boks winning the Rugby World Cup or Tyla scooping a Grammy. But we've now gained a more dubious honor - the most time spent in front of a screen compared to any other nation.
A study conducted by Electronics Hub reveals that South Africans spend more than half their day, around 60-percent, on screens.
The global average is six hours and 37-minutes.
The site says they conducted the study using DataReportal’s Digital 2023: Global Overview Report and then looked at sleep patterns data from Sleep Cycle.
The majority of that screen time is spent on social media.
Brazil, the Philippines, Argentina and Columbia round out the top five for average screen time.
Maybe it's time to pick up a book.
