JOHANNESBURG - City Power has launched a full-scale disciplinary and legal process.

A forensic investigation has uncovered financial irregularities in its procurement and payment systems. 

The findings reveal fraudulent job numbers, duplicate approvals, and collusion between employees and contractors.

The utility says that some of its workers are actively colluding with contractors to defraud the utility. Fifteen employees face disciplinary action linked to multi-million rands corruption. 

Cable theft and corruption are only a portion of the utility's problems there are also infrastructure challenges with some substations operating and running well over their expected lifespan. They have not been serviced or repaired in decades.
