Gauteng crime down by 6.5% in the last quarter of 2024

PRETORIA - Overall crime in Gauteng went down by 6.5 percent in the third quarter of 2024/205.

Gauteng Police Commissioner, Tommy Mthombeni, released the statistics while briefing members of the safety and security portfolio committee.

In February, Police Minister Senzo Mchunu released the quarterly national crime statistics, where he announced a notable decrease in murder cases for the last quarter of 2024.

He also revealed that Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal continue to be the largest contributors to the national murder statistics.

Gauteng being the highest contributor of murders between October and December.
