EC mother accused of murdering 11-month-old baby

PORT ST JOHNS - A 27-year-old Port St. Johns mother has been arrested for the murder of her baby.

It follows her assault by community members who accuse the mother of killing the child.

The 11-month-old girl was found in the Nonyevu area on Friday.

It was discovered by a man walking through the bushes.

He alerted the community, that located the mother and assaulted her, leading to her hospitalisation.

It is believed the infant got sick in December and died on New Year's Day.

The mother is expected to appear in the Port St. Johns Magistrate's Court.

A post mortem is being conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
