JOHANNESBURG - Fierce fighting between South African troops and the M23 rebel group has resulted in the loss of nine South African National Defence Force members.
Over two days of intense conflict, South African forces successfully halted the rebels' advance toward Goma in eastern DRC.

Defence Minister Angie Motshekga and senior defence officials have expressed deep condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers.
Meanwhile, the South African National Defence Union is demanding immediate communication from the South African National Defence Force regarding ongoing military operations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Concerns have been raised over a lack of information amid reports of casualties involving South African troops.
