JOHANNESBURG - The ANC Youth League says President Cyril Ramaphosa  must be allowed space to resolve South Africa's dispute with the US.

Expelled from America, former ambassador Ebrahim Rasool is expected in South Africa on Sunday and his comrades in the tripartite alliance are planning gatherings to welcome him.

Rasool was declared persona non grata last Friday, and his privileges and immunities were withdrawn following criticism levelled against US President Donald Trump.

South Africa and the United States have been in a series of diplomatic squabbles since Trump took office in January.

Ramaphosa had asked that the rallies be toned down during this complicated time between Washington and Pretoria.

The White House has accused South Africa of racially persecuting Afrikaners after the newly introduced Expropriation Act was announced. And, nearly R8 billion aid cut has had devastating consequences for HIV/AIDS treatment programmes in South Africa.

President of the ANCYL, Collen Malatji has agreed with Ramaphosa's request. Malatji says the country cannot afford to lose US as a trade partner in these difficult times.
