JOHANNESBURG - South Africa Shines at Special Olympics in Turin, Italy
This as South Africa made a remarkable impact, securing six medals from 8 to 16 March.
Special Olympics South Africa CEO Ancilla Smith hailed the achievement, saying it set a new record.
She says South Africa excelled in winter sports like figure skating and short track speed skating.
Further highlighting the athletes' resilience, Smith says ""The biggest challenge is what our athletes go through. They are competing against Canada and Northern European countries with athletes that grow up on the ice and skating by the time they can walk."
Smith commended the athletes, calling their performance a 'phenomenal' achievement.
