Paris Olympics | Walaza is Team SA's sprint hopeful

JOHANNESBURG - Team SA has thrown down the gauntlet to their sprint opponents at the Paris Olympics.

South Africa is sending a healthy contingent of sprinters, including Akani Simbine, Shaun Maswanganyi, and even 400m world record holder Wayde van Niekerk, who will compete in the 200m.

Another young talent who has come through and will represent his country at his first-ever Games, is 18-year-old Bayanda Walaza.

The Curro Hazeldean Grade 12 learner is the first Olympian to come from an independent school group.

Walaza,  regarded as one of the fastest teenagers in the world with a personal best time of 10.13, will make up SA's 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams.
