JOHANNESBURG - The new government ministers have officially taken office, and South Africans are keen to see how they will lead their respective portfolios.

The DA's Siviwe Gwarube has succeeded Angie Motshekga, who was Basic Education Minister for a long time.

Party officials have also been appointed in the ministries of agriculture, public works and communications.

Another newcomer to the national government, the Patriotic Alliance's Gayton McKenzie is taking over the Sport, Arts and Culture ministry.

The FF Plus’ Pieter Groenewald has taken the ministry of Correctional Services.

Harlan Cloete, a research fellow at the University of the Free State, unpacked this with eNCA.
