Critical skills shortage | There’s no place like Mzansi

JOHANNESBURG - There's no place like home.

That old adage is reinforcing itself as expats return to South Africa.

An exodus of skilled professionals raised concern in many circles, but many are now coming back home.

One immigration expert believes they are returning because the country has a strong hold on them.

"South Africa has taken hold I think on the psyche, on the emotions, on the hearts and souls of everyone that's left who find themselves in faraway jurisdictions like the United States and Australia," said Gary Eisenberg. 

"South Africa has a tremendous hold on people who have left and in my immigration practice I obviously deal with people who are coming into South Africa, including ex-South Africans who might have left some time ago.

"Those emotional bonds are very very strong."
