International Relations and Cooperation Minister Ronald Lamola says the correct diplomatic processes regarding Ebrahim Rasool's expulsion were not followed.

South Africa's Ambassador to the United States was declared persona non grata by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio following his comments on President Donald Trump and the MAGA movement.

Mangcu said, "We have this tendency in South Africa of recycling politicians and Rasool was here for about 10 years or so, couldn't we find somebody new, younger?"

"Why send somebody who has been a freelance academic and commentator? It is a long held diplomatic tradition that you do not comment on the affairs of the country to which you are being posted," he said.
