JOHANNESBURG - Former President Jacob Zuma reported back at the Escourt Prison on Friday, was processed, and then released via a 'special remission' process.
Justice Minister Ronald Lamola says the remission process is granted by President Cyril Ramaphosa to low-risk offenders.
The decision was taken to address overcrowding in prisons.
Zuma was sentenced to 15 months in prison for contempt of court.
This happened after Zuma failed to appear before the Zondo Commission into State Capture.
He served just two months of the sentence before being released on medical parole.
In July, the Constitutional Court upheld an SCA ruling that his medical parole was unlawful.
