The Gift of the Givers is in the Breede Valley Municipality to assist affected families with food, blankets and other items.

The province's emergency services are on high alert as there is more rain expected in the coming days.

Gift of the Givers' Ali Sablay says their teams are assisting affected communities across the province.

He said, "we received a call last week Thursday from this municipality informing us that 1,200 people have been displaced in this community, that's 362 families."

"The Gift of the Givers is here today because of the accessibility and logistically not being able to get here for last few days but we're grateful from the municipality and law enforcement for helping us get here."

"We're assisting each one with food hampers and non-perishable food items to carry them for the next month, some mattresses, some blankets, some toiletries, some baby key packs. Our teams are not only here, we're currently busy in Marikana and Phillipi as well and we have a team on the N7 busy and Pietermaritzburg as well."
