Vaal Dam | Procedures when dams overflow

ORKNEY - When it rains, it pours — and right now, some of South Africa's biggest dams, like the Vaal, are filling up fast.

When a dam hits 100-percent, where does the extra water go? 

Straight to the sea? Down the drain? Or is there a smarter way to keep it?

The Water and Sanitation Department says its plans range from raising dam walls to building new mega-structures — but will it be enough to future-proof our supply?

Water Management expert, Professor Anja du Plessis, discussed the procedures with eNCA.
