JOHANNESBURG - Taxis in South Africa are speeding things up but not in the way we are used to.
They are taking a tech turn by helping millions of commuters access the internet while on the move.
Around 63% of South Africans spend 15 minutes to an hour on their daily commute.
Now, free in-transit connectivity will make that time more productive.
"The project started as early as 2012 and we have walked this 11-year journey to bring free connectivity to the taxi industry," said Managing Director for WiTaxi, Brian Mdluli.
"We have over 48,000 taxis that have been installed with a WiFi hot box and the ones that are on the road at the moment are just over 4,000 that have been activated and we activate over 150 of these taxis on a daily basis."
