Spaza shops | Tsakane residents target foreign-owned shops

JOHANNESBURG - Residents in Tsakane looted and damaged shops owned by foreign nationals.

This follows the death of a Grade 1 pupil at Mandlethu Primary School.

Six-year-old Refilwe Usman died after allegedly eating biscuits from a local spaza shop.

Usman's family has confirmed that they bought the biscuits at a local spaza shop on Tuesday morning on their way to school.

Four other pupils have been hospitalised.

The Gauteng Education Department says it will engage relevant authorities on regulating spaza shops.

Tensions remain high in the area as most local shop have been shut down.
