JOHANNESBURG - The South African political system is broken and citizens are ready for change.
Former news editor and political commentator Songezo Zibi says this is why Rise Mzansi has been launched.
He says Parliament and local councils are no longer representative of the will of the people, and his party hopes to offer a new alternative.
Zibi says the party doesn't just want to change the political landscape, they want to overhaul the entire system.
He was speaking to Prof JJ Tabane on Power To Truth.
"One of the things we recognise as Rise Mzansi is how broken the political system is," Zibi said.
"Notwithstanding the fact that we've got, I don't know how many political parties, granted we are one of them.
"In 2021, 70 percent of eligible voters did not vote, which means they didn't like what's on the menu, that could partly explain why you have so many parties," he said.
"But one of the things we really want to change is actually the political system itself because it doesn't work."
