JOHANNESBURG - Prasa says vandalism and theft continue at some of its stations.
It says it's working hard to ensure commuters feel safe when taking trains.
Prasa spokesperson Andiswa Makana said, "when we had lockdown, things just escalated: the vandalism and theft."
"One of the key things in protecting the infrastructure is the movement of trains because when you have trains moving, it's difficult for criminals to come and target our rail infrastructure."
"What we are doing now is that we are deploying security, we have in-sourced more than 3100 security, we have contractors helping to safeguard the infrastructure including the infrastructure that we have restored."
"We are also working with the SAPS, we are working with intelligence because we cannot escape the fact that there are criminal syndicates working, stealing and targeting our infrastructure."
