DURBAN - ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa is vowing to better equip law enforcement officials.
He was addressing police union Popcru's national congress in Durban.
Ramaphosa says its important for people to be and feel safe.
"Integral to a developmental state is a capable criminal justice system that can effectively deal with crime and corruption," Ramaphosa said.
"Under difficult conditions, our ANC government is working to build such a criminal justice system.
"Tackling crime is fundamentally about our people's well-being and their sense of security, but it is also important for economic and social development," he said.
"Creating a safe environment for the people of our country to fully participate in economic and social life in our country is non-negotiable."
