JOHANNESBURG - Deputy Minister of Higher Education Buti Manamela says the resignation of the NSFAS board chair, shows that his department is serious about rooting out corruption.
He insists the student funding body is not in crisis, despite allegations of fraud, and misappropriation of funds.
NSFAS board chair Ernest Khosa is taking leave to allow the inquiry into damning recordings about him and Higher Education Minister, Blade Nzimande.
The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse is accusing both Khoza and Nzimande of defrauding NSFAS through kickbacks from service providers.
Khosa says he's been receiving death threats since OUTA leaked recordings alleging the corruption.
NSFAS says Khosa's leave of absence should not be misinterpreted as an admission of guilt.
