CAPE TOWN - Some of the best legal minds from around the world are in Cape Town for a four-day conference to stop gender-based violence and femicide.
Attending the first day of the conference was President Cyril Ramaphosa.
He told delegates at the 17th International Association of Women Judges that South African law did not favour survivors.
He challenged those present to use their knowledge and experience to find ways to end the scourge.
Meanwhile, the the Justice Department wants to eliminate the practice of forcing minor children to testify in abuse cases saying it adds to their trauma.
Justice and Constitutional Development Minister, Mmamoloko Kubayi, says the social workers, police, and the justice department will meet next week to discuss why so few cases involving the abuse of minors go to court.
