DURBAN - The IFP, DA, ANC and NFP alliance has come out tops in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature after Thami Ntuli was elected as the province's new premier.
Ntuli defeated Inkosi Phathisizwe Chiliza of the MK Party with 41 to 39 votes.
In his first address as a premier, Ntuli says he understands the challenges KZN is grappling with.
He said, "One is humbled to be afforded this opportunity by the people of KZN to lead this province."
"It is not something we take lightly and I understand the mammoth task ahead owing to the challenges facing the province."
"One understands that this is not just an office in which one has been elected to but it's the task to serve the people of this province, at least to inspire hope to those who are hopeless by what they've experienced and have seen happening in the past."
