It’s been three months since Keppler was killed. Her friends and family gathered to mark the milestone.

Her Eldorado Park family has welcomed the attention the case has received, but knows the issue of gender-based violence has a far wider reach.

The tears continue to flow, and the young woman's friends are less hopeful of justice.

"The law is failing us because see how many times we had to go to court and then it’s a problem on their side, so I feel like the law is basically failing us," said one Keppler's friends.

As the NPA continues to field questions about its handling of cases involving the abuse of women and children, its head hopes more can be done to ensure that these crimes don’t reach her office in the first place.

The accused in Keppler’s killing remains behind bars after opting not to apply for his temporary release from custody.

Keppler's father says he would like to see the alleged perpetrator not being granted bail.
